Moffat County Sheriff’s Department offers students $1,000 scholarships

The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office is offering three $1,000.00 scholarships again this year. The scholarship program began in 1987 when the department sponsored a horseshoe tournament. Since then the fund has awarded over $32,000.00 in scholarships. The program is now funded through a golf tournament and an archery tournament held each summer.

Any graduating senior from Moffat County High School may apply. In a change from last year the committee will accept applications from students who may be planning to attend an out-of-state school as well as those planning to attend an in-state school. The County Sheriff’s of Colorado will also sponsor a scholarship this year. The recipient of that scholarship, however, must attend an in-state school. The scholarship committee will decide who the recipients will be. Colleges, universities and trade or technical schools are all considered as higher education by the scholarship committee.

Applications for the scholarships must be submitted by April 3, 2000, to the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office to be considered. Application forms are available through the high school or the Sheriff s Office or on the Sheriff’s Office Web site at:

http://www.moffatcountysheriff.com. An independent committee will review all the applications and make the three selections.
