Moffat County races under way
January 9, 2010
Craig — The November general election season is almost here, with residents filing to be candidates for county offices and local officials preparing for the spring caucuses.
Elaine Sullivan, Moffat County clerk and recorder, announced Friday that she plans to run for county treasurer.
Her chief deputy, Lila Herod, also announced she plans to run for county clerk.
Sullivan, who has worked with Herod in the clerk's office for several years, said she would endorse Herod's candidacy, and that there would be no one more qualified.
Carol Scott, chief deputy appraiser for the Moffat County Assessor's Office, also has filed papers that she intends to run for county assessor this year, while Moffat County Sheriff Tim Jantz filed papers he plans to run for re-election.
In addition to those offices, the county coroner and surveyor positions are up for election in 2010, as well as the Moffat County Commission seats of Tom Mathers and Audrey Danner.

Danner was appointed in 2008 to fill the seat vacated by former commissioner Saed Tayyara after he died, and so she must run to stay in office.
Whoever wins the position will serve a two-year term until 2012, when Tayyara's original four-year term concludes.
Herod, who manages elections for the county, said she was not aware if anyone had filed for coroner, surveyor or commissioner.
Residents have until Jan. 19 to register with a political party if they want to vote in the precinct caucuses March 16.
To register, visit the clerk's office on the second floor of the Moffat County Courthouse, 221 W. Victory Way.
