Moffat County High School Homecoming promises great time

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

Fireworks blast in the nighttime sky during halftime of the 2014 Homecoming football game at Moffat County High School. The pyrotechnics will be among the many offerings of this year's weeklong event, as well as delivery of the game ball by helicopter, a community parade and pep rally, student dress-up days and more.

During the time of year when the leaves are changing colors, the hues of royal blue and white remain ever the same.

• Monday — 1920s Day/ Crazy Dress Day

• Tuesday — 1950s Day (Freshmen float)/Cowboy and Safari Day

• Wednesday — 1970s Day (Sophomore float)/Disney and Pixar Day

The Roaring '20s are the dress-up day celebration for Monday, followed by the fabulous 50s, super '70s and elaborate '80s each following day. Craig Middle School will host its own dress days with Crazy Day, Cowboy/Safari Day, Disney/Pixar Day and Pajama Day, but Bulldogs of every age will have Blue and White Day Friday as students don school colors leading up to the afternoon's parade and evening football game against Basalt at the Bulldog Proving Grounds.

MCHS athletes will be spending the week giving back to their youngest fans, as the cross country, boys golf, boys soccer, volleyball and football teams visit local schools to read to their students prior to putting on their game faces.

With old favorites like Wednesday's Powder Puff Football game and the Thursday pep assembly and after-dark bonfire making a return, Tuesday has a new element for students, a social media photo scavenger hunt hosted during free time to give them the opportunity to win spirit points for their class by posting pictures to Instagram.

The parade takes place along Victory Way at 1 p.m. Friday, and following the route, the fun doesn't end, as organizers will set up in the former Safeway parking lot for a pep rally that includes the entire community.

"We want everyone in the stands to know the school fight song and get psyched up," said Amanda McDermott, MCHS student council adviser.

For more information on how to get involved with the pep rally, call David Pressgrove at 970-629-9600.

The Bulldogs' meeting with the Longhorns will start with the coronation of Homecoming royalty, a golf ball drop fundraiser to benefit the girls basketball team and the delivery of the game ball by helicopter courtesy of time donated by Classic Air Medical.

The band program and cheer teams will help spectators keep up the energy, and fireworks provided by Moffat County Booster ClubMoffat County Booster Club will do the rest. will do the rest.

Moffat County Booster Club will do the rest.

"They've been so generous," McDermott said. "Everybody's getting into the competitive spirit."
