Moffat County Commissioners consider county manager

Moffat County Commissioners are starting the conversation on hiring a county manager and have sought funding for the position.
Last week, Moffat County Finance Director Mindy Curtis submitted an application for a Colorado Department of Local Affairs grant that would provide funding for a county manager.
The grant is spread over three years and would provide 75 percent of the manager's salary and benefits the first year, 50 percent the second and 25 the third.
Commissioner Chuck Grobe said the grant is being sought to keep the option of hiring a county manager on the table but nothing has been decided yet.
"We just wanted to see what the possibilities were and then go forward with the discussion with the department heads," he said.
Grobe, as well as Commissioners John Kinkaid and Frank Moe, said before any decisions are made all of the different county departments would be consulted and given a chance to weigh in.

"We want to see if it's going to be a good fit for Moffat County or not," said Kinkaid, adding that he thinks there are some advantages for having a county manager.
Moe said the professional management skills a county manager would bring to Moffat County are definitely an asset.
The deadline to apply for the grant was Friday and a decision is expected in two to three months, Grobe said.
According to the International City/County Management Association, "Professional managers, much like executives running private sector corporations, bring together the leadership, vision, and focus on results needed to create better communities by managing financial and human resources, delivering services, planning strategically for community development, using performance metrics systems to drive continuous improvement and committing to high ethical standards."
Moffat County has not previously employed a county manager.
