This weekend is all about resting up for the holidays and working ahead if you can.

Enjoy a relaxing night at the theater and do some early Christmas shopping for items made locally. Plus, "Harry Potter" comes to town, if you're into it.

But whatever you choose for fun this weekend, be sure to get rested and get ready for the holiday season upon us.

• The hills are alive.

That's right — "The Sound of Music" is here.

Catch one of four Moffat County High School performances of this classic featuring a whole cast of local youths.

It's on at 7 p.m. Thursday, 7 p.m. Friday, and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the high school, 900 Finley Lane. The cost is $5 per person.

Check out local crafts at the Yampa Valley Artisans Holiday Market.

The market runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at The Center of Craig, 601 Yampa Ave., and sounds like it'll feature some neat gift items.

Have a look at their pottery, jewelry, photography, cards and art, and stick around for door prizes and refreshments.

Eat a good meal.

First Congregational United Church of Christ, 630 Green St., invites anyone to join them for an early Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, ham and trimmings at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Rejoice at the opening of a new church.

New Creation Church, which opened its doors recently at 520 Westridge Road, is hosting an open house for the community from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Go see the new church and enjoy some refreshments. Call 826-0792 if you need to know more.

Head up to the Holiday Inn for the next Chamber mixer.

It runs from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Holiday Inn of Craig, 300 S. Colo. Hwy. 13.

I won a sweet door prize the last time the Holiday hosted a mixer — plus there's drinks and good food — so it's worth your time to check it out.

RSVP for the mixer by calling 824-5689 or e-mailing office@craig-chamber.com.

Get your vote on.

Saturday is the final day to vote on Boxers & Bras for a Cause at The Flower Mine & Gift Shop, 410 W. Victory Way.

If you're feeling crafty this weekend, get a jump start on your gingerbread house.

The Annual Downtown Gingerbread House Contest has a deadline of Dec. 3, but it's not too early to start creating.

To pay your $6 entry fee and get a special board to display your gingerbread house, call or visit The Kitchen Shop, 577 Yampa Ave., 824-8148, or KS Kreations, 523 Yampa Ave., at 824-2151.

West Theatre features a midnight showing Friday of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" with tickets going on sale at 11 p.m. Thursday. I know some of you out there will be excited about it, but I let that bandwagon pass me by long ago.

The theater will also have "Megamind" through Tuesday, which will be replaced by "Tangled," the cute new animated film about Rapunzel, starting Wednesday.

Redbox now has "The Last Airbender," "Predators" and "The Extra Man" for your viewing pleasure.
