The Moffat County Tourism Association Board meeting came and went Wednesday without the selection of a new chairperson.

A vote for the new chair was delayed until the board’s next meeting, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. March 2.

The decision to wait came after MCTA Director Marilynn Hill went over the views of the Moffat County Commission. Hill spoke with the commission Tuesday about the chairperson dilemma.

“They really were looking at it from a ‘you all need to figure this out (standpoint),” Hill told the MCTA Board.

The board has been without a chairperson because of a tie vote between two candidates for the position — KS Kreations owner Kandee Dilldine and Craig Daily Press Publisher Bryce Jacobson.

The commissioners proposed having multiple people split the role or a rotating chair system.

At Tuesday’s commissioner meeting, Jacobson said he was against the idea because the board oversees Hill, an employee.

On Wednesday, Hill expressed the same sentiment to the board.

“The problem is, and I do agree with Bryce, is that realistically, we do need a chair position,” Hill said. “In my position, I do need someone I can work with one-on-one.”

The solution, she told the board, lies in recruiting new board members. MCTA currently has three vacant board positions.

Both Hill and Jacobson said they expected to receive letters of interest from potential new board members in the near future.

Hill told the board the commission would likely appoint potential new members in time for the next MCTA meeting.

Also at the meeting, the board unanimously voted to join the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association. The move will allow MCTA to get its brochures distributed in the Steamboat Springs area.

“If that’s where we go eventually, where we’re trying to capture some of those Steamboat visitors, I think this is a smart step in the right direction,” Jacobson said.

MCTA will be joining the chamber at the $500 bronze level.
