Although the Moffat County High School girls varsity volleyball team was unable to top Grand Junction on Thursday, head coach Sandy Camilletti said there were positives her team took away from the match.
For one, the Bulldogs didn't back down to the Tigers.
"At times, they played really scrappy," Camilletti said. "They were hustling on every play."
Grand Junction (4-2 overall) won, 25-20, 25-12 and 25-22. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 2-3 on the season.
After splitting the Sept. 3 and 4 Regis Jesuit tournament, and playing Grand Junction on the road, the Bulldogs will play their first home game of the season today.
The Bulldogs will host Fruita-Monument (5-0 overall) at 1 p.m. The freshmen and junior varsity teams are scheduled to play at 11 a.m. and noon, respectively.
The Wildcats are coming off a win Thursday over No. 4 ranked Eagle Valley in five sets.
"They will probably be pretty tough," Camilletti said. "We need to have 100-percent engagement, 100 percent of the time."
If the Bulldogs want to win today, they will need to be more explosive, Camilletti said.
"We need to be quicker with everything," she said. "Our feet need to be quicker, and we need to be quicker to our blocks and approaches."
The Bulldogs have yet to play a 4A school this season. Their first game against a league-rival will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 17, when they play in Palisade.
The Bulldogs will host Hayden High School at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14.
