Valentine’s Day event seeking more entries

A variety of chocolate goods will be only part of the display during the 20th annual Art Walk and ninth annual Taste of Chocolate Feb. 14 in downtown Craig. The event will also include a dance in the evening and will coincide with the Cherish the Little Things Art Show.

Valentine's Day goes hand in hand with many things, one of them being chocolate, and this Feb. 14 is no exception.

The 20th annual Art Walk and ninth annual Taste of Chocolate will be here soon, and organizers with Downtown Business Association want this year's celebration of talent to be bigger and better than ever.

Nadine Daszkiewicz said she has already begun approving entrants for the confectionary portion of the event, and her goal is to have 20 or more involved by the end of January.

Directions are loose on what kind of goodies can be entered, with the exception of one hard rule in way of ingredients.

"Anything chocolate, that's all," Daszkiewicz said.

People also need to be willing to cook up enough to accommodate at least 150 people, she added.

The $12 tickets, which go on sale Feb. 1, buy people samples of all the chocolate items they could care to eat as they make their way around Yampa Avenue, but that's only half the offering. Local artists will also be setting up shop, displaying their best materials for all to see.

Organizers are also seeking more people interested in showing their art, with any luck having as many businesses as possible participating.

"We want to have lots of places to go on Yampa," Daszkiewicz said.

The Art Walk will also tie in to the final day of Connections 4 Kids' Cherish the Little Things Art Show, and all are encouraged to view the paintings and drawings of Moffat County's kids at Center of Craig in between chocolate binges.

Another addition this year is a dance at the Elks Lodge, the last stop for Taste of Chocolate, and it’s the where participants can vote on their favorite dishes.

“Frank Sadvar graciously agreed to let the DBA host the dance on the second floor of the Elks Lodge,” said Daily Press Managing Editor Noelle Leavitt Riley, who is organizing the dance. “We’re excited to watch people dance cheek to cheek on the romantic holiday.”

Though the event always takes place on a Saturday around Valentine's Day, this year the date worked out just right, said KS Kreations owner Kandee Dilldine.

A great night for couples, the gathering as a whole is something all can appreciate, she said.

"It comes at just the right time when people are starting to get cabin fever and they just want to get outside and do something," she said.

Dilldine and daughter Kassie Vesely will be putting together their own entries for the Taste of Chocolate, though what that will be will remain hidden until the big night.

"It's a secret right now," Dilldine said.
