Leiker receives many awards and honors

Amanda Jo Leiker, 1997 graduate of Moffat County High School was awarded the “Class of 1909 Prize to The Outstanding Newcomb Senior” as she graduated cum laude from Tulane University in New Orleans. Her honors thesis entitled “Defending our home on the range: Opposition to the Vermillion National Monument Proposal” earned her departmental honors in Political Science and Sociology. She was also chosen to give the commencement address during the May 19th graduation held in the Superdome.
Among her other honors, she received recognition for her acceptance into Mortar Board National Honor Society, The Newcomb College Oak Wreath for Outstanding Students and was named in Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.
After spending the summer working as Environmental Program Consultant for Tulane University, she is attending the graduate school at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor where she will be part of their Environmental Justice Program. She has also been selected as a graduate student instructor for the University of Michigan.
As well as her academic achievements, she has recently had her environmental research included in the new book by J. Timmons Roberts.
