Joint Commission awards accreditation to TMH

The Memorial Hospital recently earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for its compliance with national standards of health care quality and safety, according to a TMH news release.
The Joint Commission's on-site survey of The Memorial Hospital occurred in March.
Representatives from the commission arrived unannounced, and surveyed the quality and outcomes of health care at TMH.
Founded in 1951, the Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 17,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States, according to the Joint Commission's website.
"Because our affiliation with the Joint Commission is voluntary, I am always proud of how seriously our staff takes quality improvement," said George Rohrich, TMH chief executive officer, in the release. "Our employees appreciate the educational aspect of the survey and the opportunity to interact with the team of supervisors."
Mark Pelletier, executive director of Hospital Programs, Accreditation and Certification Services at the Joint Commission, said national health care standards are designed to stimulate improvement among performance and health care outcomes.
"The community should be proud that The Memorial Hospital is focusing on the most challenging goal — to continuously raise quality and safety to higher levels," Pelletier said.
TMH officials said this year's survey was one of its best, due in large part to its healthcare practices and a new facility with updated equipment.
"Our accreditation is proof of an organization-wide commitment to provide quality care on an ongoing basis," Rohrich said.
