John Fielder to visit Craig Thursday
June 11, 2014
John Fielder, an award-winning Colorado nature photographer, is coming to Craig on Thursday to present his exhibit and to urge a conservationist mindset.
"I want to talk to the community about how we can protect the ranch landscape and the natural landscape and how the two fit together and are symbiotic," Fielder said.
Fielder is showcasing his Colorado photographs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act; coordinated by Conservation Colorado, the Community Alliance of the Yampa Valley, Western Colorado Congress and The Wilderness Society. He passed through Steamboat on Wednesday and is spending all day Thursday in Craig to talk about Moffat County's role in preserving Colorado's nature and working lands.
Fielder spent the weekend traveling through Moffat and Routt counties taking photos. He's going to use those photos to showcase the beauty of the Yampa Valley and press the point that these are areas worth taking care of, he said.
"I am going to talk about big picture things and hopefully engage the community in how we protect both the natural and working landscapes," he said.
Fielder will host a book signing 2 p.m. Thursday at Downtown Books, and his exhibit will open at the same time at the Museum of Northwest Colorado. He will run through his multimedia presentation and book signing at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Moffat County Fairgrounds Pavilion.
Marilyn Hill, who manages Downtown Books, said she was thrilled Fielder would be making a stop at the bookstore.
"I am so excited," she said. "He is an eminent nature photographer. He's recognized, not only in Colorado, but all over the U.S."
