William Adams

William Adams, a U.S. Army helicopter pilot serving in Vietnam, was trying to evacuate wounded soldiers from a hostile area in 1971.

He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, the highest military achievement.

Adams, a former Craig resident, will receive another posthumous honor at 10:30 a.m. Saturday when a segment of Colorado Highway 13 is dedicated as the Major William Adams Medal of Honor Highway.

The Colorado Department of Transportation recently placed several highway signs along Highway 13, but the road hasn't yet been formally dedicated.

Larry Neu, quartermaster for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4265, will lead the dedication.

Several members of Adams' family will attend the event, including wife Sandra, daughter Jean, and son John Adams, a colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps.
