Health Insurance Tip: Are you eligible for tax subsidies?

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

Though the state health insurance marketplace is open to anyone who wants to purchase health coverage, only some are eligible for tax credits via the marketplace.

If you are eligible for health benefits through your workplace, you can still shop for coverage on the marketplace, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation Health Reform Frequently Asked Questions, but you may not qualify for tax credits on your monthly premiums.

In order to qualify for subsidies, or premium tax credits, you must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully present immigrant residing in the state whose marketplace you purchase from, with income between 100 and 400 percent of the federal poverty level.

Local health coverage guides can help you determine if you are eligible for subsidies or public health coverage programs by calling the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Assocation at 970-871-7324.
