But, she also believes local residents tend to be more interested in enjoying Grand Olde West Days than working in it.

With less than two months until the 21st annual festival, slated for May 28 through 30, Dilldine, chairwoman of the event committee, is seeking volunteers and funding for Grand Olde West Days.

"We need new people, new ideas, that type of thing to keep it going," she said. "I think it'd be kind of sad if it went away because of a lack of volunteers."

Dilldine said cutbacks have already happened with some parts of the event because of funding and staffing concerns.

Previously, there have been offerings such as bull riding and a concert that would take place the Saturday night of the event. There will not be an event in that timeslot this year, although there will be a dance at 9 p.m. at the Moffat County Fairgrounds Pavilion, Dilldine said.

She said a carnival sponsored by the Craig Chamber of Commerce, Monday street festival and Craig Lions Club parade will go on as planned.

Dilldine said volunteers for the event will be able to work as they please, be it one day or the entire weekend. She said the committee meets once every few weeks for about an hour.

The event is also looking for sponsors, with costs as low as $50.

Dilldine said she's unsure how much money is needed this year, but a lack of funding could mean a cutback in entertainment or amenities.

She said insurance is one of the pricier expenses for the event.

Anyone interested in volunteering or contributing money should call Dilldine at 824-2151.

The next committee meeting is noon Friday at the Golden Cavvy, 538 Yampa Ave, and anyone interested in helping is welcome to attend, she said.
