Residents searching for a fresh read, a quick snack or a cold drink on a hot day need look no further than the Craig branch of the Moffat County Libraries.

Larona McPherson, a library assistant in Craig, said Friday the local branch located at 570 Green St. is continuing its annual used book sale.

The sale is supported by the Friends of the Library.

“The used book sale itself has been going on for more years than I can remember,” McPherson said. “We just want to remind everybody that the book sale is still going on.”

Books range in price from 50 cents to $1 and encompass a broad range of genres including fiction, non-fiction and children’s literature.

The library also has a handful of books on tape for sale, McPherson said.

New this year, the library has expanded its offering of snacks and cold drinks.

“We’ve also had cookies and bottled water available for a while, but we’re trying out this idea of offering ice cold drinks,” McPherson said. “We don’t know where it will go or how successful it will be, but we could be offering more items in the future.

Cookies and bottled water are available for $1, McPherson said. Iced tea, V8 Fusion drinks and Propel enhanced flavored water also are available for $1.50.

“The library is a great place for people looking for a snack, a cold drink and a new book,” McPherson said.

Inside the library, books range in condition from well-used to slightly used, McPherson said. Prices begin at 50 cents, but residents may also grab three new reads for $1.

Library employees are also selling newer books outside for $1 a piece.

The books available for sale include a mix of donations from the community and those retired from library shelves.

The library accepts donations throughout the year, but McPherson cautions people to make sure their donations are of appropriate content and in good condition.

“Sometimes we receive boxes of books from people that have been in storage for years, gotten wet and moldy, or a variety of other things,” McPherson said. “If it’s not something you would be comfortable lending to a friend, it’s probably not going to be a book we’ll feel comfortable selling to our community members.”

Books are available for purchase at the library Monday through Saturday during normal business hours.

Proceeds fund a variety of improvement projects at the library, McPherson said.
