Food and movies available on Christmas

Christmas morning — the presents are open, breakfast is eaten.

Now what?

Most people would rather not work on Christmas, but a few people are shouldering the labor load to afford others the chance to do something outside the house on Dec. 25.

The Holiday Inn of Craig will host a Christmas buffet starting at 11 a.m. The buffet includes slow-roasted, top round, smothered chicken breast and steamed cod, along with a variety of sides and desserts.

“People tend to come out and stay quite a while,” said Mikki O’Brien, Holiday Inn general manager.

To accommodate customers who want a slow holiday dinner, the staff turns the tables over slowly and opens the entire lobby of the hotel to diners.

It’s not uncommon to get a table of 20 people for the buffet, she said. Many people with out of town visitors come to enjoy a work-free meal.

The cost is $13.95 for adults and $11.95 for senior citizens. Children 12 years old and younger eat for $6.95, and children 5 years old and younger eat for free.

West Theater in Craig will show movies Christmas evening. Moviegoers can view either the crime caper “Ocean’s 12” starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney, or the comedy “Meet the Fockers” starring Ben Stiller and Robert DeNiro.

Anyone preparing dinner at home needs to buy groceries before 6 p.m. today. City Market and Safeway will close at that time, and neither store will reopen until Sunday.

Christmas Day emergency calls should be directed to emergency dispatch at 824-8111 or 824-6501.
