Fire board aims for vote on mill levy increase

The Craig Rural Fire Protection District board decided Thursday evening to ask the public again for a mill levy increase in November.

The board approved a ballot initiative for voters to decide on a mill levy increase. This request marks the third time the board has asked for the increase in six years.

“We’ve learned a lot about what it takes for the public to understand the need in the previous two attempts,” Fire Chief Chris Nichols said.

He said he thinks he can prove to the public the need for the district’s mill levy increase and how it will benefit the community.

“We will present a 10-year capital equipment upgrade and replacement plan that will demonstrate that need,” Nichols said.

The amount of the mill levy increase has not been determined, Nichols said.
