Discount ticket rates available for 2012-13 concert season

Andy Bockelman

A night of culture for an affordable price is sometimes hard to find.

Even so, if you act now, you can keep your wallet stocked and still get a good experience.

Tickets are now on sale for the Craig Concert Association’s 2012-13 series. The organization recently announced it will offer a deal for early birds to renew or purchase a membership at the same rate as the 2011-12 season.

Season tickets are $35 for adults, $10 for students and $80 for a family of two adults with any number of children. The CCA’s final show of the season ,Richie Lee & The Fabulous ’50s, is May 1 and the last opportunity to get tickets at this rate.

After that, rates will raise to $40 for adults and $90 for families. The student price will stay the same, while a $35 senior rate will be a new feature.

A non-member individual ticket will cost $20 per show.

President Faye McKune said the CCA will be raising its prices for the next year partly because of the size of the shows.

“The groups we’ve picked are pretty large, so we’re hoping they’ll be well-received,” she said.

The new season begins Oct. 16, with the gypsy-themed dance and music troupe, Caravan of Thieves. Returning to Craig from a previous performance are the Hunts, a nine-member family ensemble that takes the stage Feb. 9, 2013, followed by the dancing duo, Two on Tap, in April.

McKune said the season finale will be especially enjoyable, with Jim Curry’s “Take Me Home,” a tribute to late country musician John Denver.

“He really looks like John Denver, and if you close your eyes, you’d think it was him,” she said. “I think people will like all of the shows we’ve got. It’s a really great lineup.”

Chamber warns businesses of questionable sponsorship requests

The Craig Chamber of Commerce recently issued an email to area businesses alerting them of advertising requests circulating from senders going by names like Millennium Sports or Millennium Productions.

The requests, inviting business owners to fund a poster with the game schedule for the Moffat County High School football team, are believed to be fraudulent.

Chamber Director Christina Oxley said she has received confirmation from MCHS that the school is in no way associated with any such effort, which is what anyone contacted by Millennium should keep in mind.

“We don’t have any evidence that this company doesn’t exist, and chances are they do sell advertising and print a poster and their distribution may just be different,” she said. “People just need to understand they’re not affiliated with the high school.”

Oxley said Craig businesses have received similar requests in the past from companies claiming to represent government offices, the fire department or other outlets.

“The best course of action is to contact whoever they say they’re involved with, and track down the source,” she said.

She added that anyone contacted with such offers should check with the Chamber to determine possible scams if they’re unable to find a background for the solicitors in question.

“We can do some research and see if things like this are a viable opportunity for their businesses or if it’s just somebody trying to turn a quick buck,” Oxley said.
