The Moffat County High School boys varsity basketball team is hanging tight with Delta after one quarter of play tonight at MCHS. The Bulldogs are behind by a bucket, 13-11. Zach Raftopoulos has 3 points for MCHS.

In the Moffat County High School boys varsity basketball team's last game against Delta on Jan. 21, the Bulldogs entered the game with their season looking up.

The team had just won its first Western Slope League game against Battle Mountain the night before and after one quarter, led the Panthers 19-9.

Then, the team got caught in Delta's transition game and allowed 31 points in the second quarter.

The Panthers (8-11 overall, 3-6 WSL) never looked back and went on to win, 82-56.

Three weeks later, the Bulldogs (2-16 overall, 1-7 WSL) will be looking for retribution as they host Delta at 7:30 p.m. tonight at MCHS, 900 Finley Lane.

Bulldogs coach David Bradshaw said Delta's transition game will again be a factor.

"Our team is a ball control team and we can't get caught in their transition game," he said. "We jumped out early last game, but the wheels just fell off."

Bradshaw said he feels his team matches up well on both ends of the court, but the game will come down to execution.

"Our offense will have to have ball control, patience and high-percentage shots," he said. "Athletically and size-wise, I think we match up well."

Both teams have lost to Steamboat Springs and Battle Mountain since their last meeting, but the Panthers beat Eagle Valley on Jan. 28, a team the Bulldogs fell to Feb. 4.

To slow the Panthers, Bradshaw said his defense would have to stop jump shots.

"(Delta) has some good spot-up shooters that hurt us last game," Bradshaw said. "We can't let them get the same looks, and (we) have to stay on them."

In the Bulldogs' last two games, Bradshaw said his inside players have played great and will have to again tonight to get a victory.

"We have seen consistency from Angelo (Raftopoulos) and Colby (Haddan) lately," he said "If we can balance the inside game with the perimeter play by Dylon (Camilletti), we will be in the game."
