Darryl Willshire: More abuse from CPW
December 18, 2012
To the editor:
"Colorado Parks and Wildlife to be harassing deer in a area near you."
That's what the headline should of read Dec. 17 on craigdailypress.com instead of “Low-flying aircraft to count deer in eastern Colorado.”
Actually the CPW has already been harassing them here. I was snowmobiling Friday and they were up on Freeman Road chasing deer.
They were flying approximately 50-100 feet off the ground and were herding the deer out of the brush and chasing them over the hills.
If a citizen had been doing this, the DOW would lock them up. There has to be a better way of counting deer than making them run through the snow in front of a helicopter!
The Division shuts off huge parcels of state land (so big game animals can rest) in the winter and will not let a hunter even hunt a coyote in that area. But they can harass them from the air?
Makes a lot of sense!
This winter is going to be hard enough on our wildlife as it is, due to low forage from the drought. This is just another case of what I see as abuse from CPW.
