Visitors to the Craig Swimming Complex will notice a few subtle changes when the complex opens for the season today.
This biggest improvement, aquatics manager Sylvia Griffiths said, is one that has been in the making for years.
"This season, we will have over five different wave patterns in our wave pool," she said. "Before, we only had one, but in the wave pool's 31st year of existence, we wanted to change things up."
Griffiths said the city has had the software for a couple of years, but needed a new compressor and some new valves as well as an additional chamber in the bottom of the pool.
"I think having new patterns will bring new attention to the facility," she said. "We always try to bring new changes every season."
The pool will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The cost of admission is $3 for 4 to 11 year olds, $3.25 for 12 to 17 year olds and $4 for adults 18 and up.
Ages 3 and under and 55 and older swim for free.
Season passes are available for children, students and adults for $60, $65 and $80, respectively. A four-member family season pass costs $200.
Since the American Legion Post 62 pool closed March 1, Griffiths said the Craig Swimming Complex would take over the senior swimnastics program.
The program will take place at 11 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.
Griffiths said the facility will once again host the Craig Sea Sharks swim meet from July 8 to 10, but will add another meet in August.
The Colorado Seasonal State meet will take place at the complex from Aug. 5 to 7.
"Having events like the Sea Sharks and state showcase our swimmers and our pool and community," Griffiths said. "We host the state meet about every five years and it brings in visitors from around the state to our town."
The facility will continue to host water walking and lap swimming every day from noon to 1 p.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Deep-water aerobics will replace the water fitness adventure every Tuesday from noon to 12:45 p.m. and 6 to 6:45 p.m.
