Craig Sports Briefs for March 30, 2015: Moffat County baseball keeps swinging in Olathe

The Moffat County High School varsity baseball team struggled in a Saturday doubleheader in Olathe, losing both games, the first 23-2 and the second 10-1.

Highlights for the Bulldogs included an inside-the-park home run by Hugh Turner in the second match that gave them their only run of the game against the Pirates.

MCHS is 2-5 overall, 2-4 in the Western Slope League. The team will next play in Rangely April 9 and another doubleheader at home against Rifle on April 11.

Hunting application deadline approaching, class offered to assist in process

The deadline to apply for limited licenses from Colorado Parks & Wildlife for this year's hunting seasons is April 7, and CPW will host "License Application 101" for those who need assistance with the endeavor.

The class will take place at 6 p.m. April 1 at the Steamboat Springs CPW and Forest Service office, 925 Weiss Dr., in Steamboat.

When applying, hunters should remember basic details such as desired location, season, type of big game, method of take and other items of information.

Those applying will need the following to apply for and purchase a license online:

• Valid photo ID

• Proof of hunter education certification

• Proof of Colorado residency (if applicable)

• 2015 Habitat Stamp (available online during application process)

• Social Security number (new customers ages 12 and older)

• Hunt codes (up to four for each species)

• Method of payment

Those who miss the deadline for limited licenses or choose otherwise can purchase an over-the-counter license beginning July 21 with no application necessary. Leftover limited licenses will go on sale starting Aug. 4.

Deadline approaching for baseball, softball signups

Parks & Recreation's seasons for Craig Youth Baseball, girls slow pitch softball, T-ball and coach pitch are coming up soon.

The deadline is April 8, and the fee is $40 for softball, T-ball and coach pitch. Ages are 5 to 6 for T-ball, 7 to 8 for coach pitch and girls ages 8 to 18 for softball The season will start May 4. For more information, call 970-826-2029.

Craig Youth Baseball is available for ages in divisions of 8 to 10, 11 to 12 and 13 to 15. Ages 8 to 12 will travel to Hayden, Meeker and Rangely at least once during the season, while road games for the older teams will be decided in April. A meeting for parents and players will take place before practice starts in late April or early May. Games will start May 18.

The deadline is April 15, and the fee is $50 to sign up for baseball. For more information, call 970-826-2006.
