Craig Sports Briefs for Jan. 8, 2014: Junior basketball registration closing soon

Basketball beginners can get into the sport though Craig Parks and Recreation's junior youth basketball league.
Registration is open for boys and girls from kindergarten through second grade. Boys leagues will play Mondays and Wednesdays, while girls will be Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The deadline to register is Wednesday, and the season runs from Feb. 10 through April 10.

Upcoming skiing opportunities for Craig youth
Registration is open for Craig Parks and Recreation's Trailbusters program.
The Trailbusters offers ski and snowboard lessons for children from Craig in first through sixth grade in January and February. Lessons begin Jan. 18 and finish Feb. 22, with transportation to Steamboat included.
Those interested must register by Friday. The cost is $300, with participants purchasing lift tickets and rentals (if needed) for each Saturday they attend.
The Parks and Rec Ski Club is also accepting registrations now. The Ski Club is open to anyone and costs $10 to join. Members can get Saturday lift tickets for $57.

Adult indoor soccer at the Boys and Girls Club
Soccer Bill Sawer is hosting co-ed indoor soccer for adults at the Boys & Girls Club of Craig.
The five-on-five games are for players of all skill levels and cost $2 per player, per night. Those coming should wear tennis shoes. Games take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday nights from now through March.

Stagecoach State Park hosts ice tourney
Steamboat Great Outdoors will be hosting the 3rd Annual Steamboat Great Outdoors Ice Fishing Tournament from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Stagecoach State Park on Jan. 19. The tournament is limited to trout species only. Cash prizes will be awarded and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Oak Creek Fire Corps. The tournament is limited to 200 adult entries. Youth can participate for free and are eligible for non-cash prizes. Adult advance registration is $25 and the day of the event is $35. Early registration and payment will be accepted until 3 p.m. Jan. 17 at Spiros's in Oak Creek, Elk River Snack Shack in Steamboat Springs, or by mail to Steamboat Great Outdoors, Post Office Box 770184, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477.
The 2014 Colorado Parks and Wildlife regulations apply to all participants. A valid park pass is required and carpooling is highly recommended, as parking may be limited. OHVs and snowmobiles are permitted at your own risk, for fishing access only on the lake surface.
