Craig Sports Briefs for Feb. 6, 2012: Week 20 bowling standings

About two-thirds of the way through the bowling season at Thunder Rolls Bowling Center, teams are still battling for position. Some that struggled early in the season have gotten hot lately and are climbing the standings.

In the Tuesday Ladies Nite Out league, the team from Thunder Rolls and Mr. B’s are comfortably in first and second places, respectively. Four teams are battling for third, led by The Dog & I at 49-31. Grants (48.5-31.5), Absolut.. (48-32) and Fab Four (43.5-36.5) are all within striking distance.

Country Living Realty has extended its lead in the Northwest Men’s League, now at 53-23, and Craig Physical Therapy is four points behind at 49-27. Thunder Rolls Bowling has been strong in the new year, going 14-2 recently to challenge for third place. At 42-32, they sit one point behind Tri-State Equipment for the spot.



Team Duh has continued its strong play in the rapidly changing Early Bird League. Duh is 294.5-209.5, ahead of the The 3 Stooges by 23 points. Whoevers and KDD are also sporting positive records and looking to make a move.

Team Misfits leads Premier Mixed Doubles at 52.5-27.5, with Has Been Gonna Be close behind. Melodie’s Gold was in seventh at the end of 2012 but has been the best since then, going 17-3 and vaulting into third place at 44-36.



Vipers has broken the tie atop the standings in Friday Night Mixed Nuts. They stand at 53-27, with Sandbaggers (50-30) and Pick Up Sticks (49-31) close behind.

RM Elect/Dry Creek is fourth at 46-34, before a gap to fifth place.

Pee Wee hockey team splits road games over weekend

The Craig Cougars Pee Wee (12 and under) hockey team played two road games last weekend, going 1-1 in the games to pick up its first win of the season.

The Pee Wee team first traveled to Gunnison on Saturday, losing 7-2. The Cougars got goals from Wyatt Boatright (who also had an assist) and Alexander Barber in the loss. Goalie Colton Lodato-Buchanan was bombarded with shots for much of the game, but made 38 saves.

In a game at Crested Butte on Sunday, Boatright and Barber again scored goals, with Dakota Kenyon adding a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win. With the win, Craig improved to 1-6-2 on the season.

The Cougars play a home game next, hosting Glenwood Springs on Feb. 23 at the Moffat County Ice Rink.

Indoor soccer available at Boys and Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club of Craig will play host to adult co-ed indoor soccer. The sport, also known as Futsal, will be open to anyone in attendance Sunday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Boys and Girls Club gym. The program started Jan. 27 and will run through mid-March.

Indoor soccer is open to players of all talent and experience levels, and while it is an adult program, is open to players 14 and older. All entry fee proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Club.

Final week for Parks and Rec spring volleyball registration

Craig Parks and Recreation has open registration for spring coed volleyball.

Rec volleyball will have a competitive league for players looking to face tougher opponents and a semi-competitive league for more casual participants. The competitive league will play Monday nights, while semi-competitive will play Tuesdays or Thursdays.

Wednesday is the final day to register. It costs $125 a team plus $10 for each player.
