Craig Sports Briefs for April 22, 2015: Moffat County High School sports hosting home events, honoring seniors

Moffat County High School runners warm up in practice along the MCHS track. The track and field teams will host the Clint Wells Invitational starting at noon Friday at MCHS, the single home event for the Bulldogs. The girls soccer and baseball teams will host home games Friday and Saturday, both of which will honor their senior players, while the girls golf program will host its home event Monday.

The Moffat County High School spring sports will have a busy couple days at home, as the track and field, girls soccer and baseball teams host events Friday and Saturday.

Track's Clint Wells Invitational starts at noon Friday at MCHS, 900 Finley Lane, as 14 total teams compete in the school's home meet.

Girls soccer will kick off a varsity game against Roaring Fork at 4 p.m. on the adjacent field, a game that will include Senior Night festivities. Junior varsity follows at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, varsity baseball — which most recently won, 5-4, in a comeback victory Wednesday in Aspen — hosts a Coal Ridge doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. at the Craig Middle School field, 915 Yampa Ave. This will be the team's Senior Day.

Meanwhile, boys swimming travels to the Mustang Invitational in Thornton and rodeo teams are at the Henderson High School and Junior High Rodeo in Brighton. Girls golf goes to River Valley Ranch Friday in Carbondale before their home event Monday.

Craig billiards league scores — Week 22

BCA Pool Leagues has gone through 22 weeks of play, starting its season in early September at The Popular Bar, 24 W. Victory Way, with a Sunday 9-ball league and a Monday 8-ball league.

The league is going into its final week of play before the city championships May 2 and 3, as the top teams face off for who will go to the larger event in Las Vegas.

Dude Dent awards night scheduled for May

Moffat County High School will host its annual Lewis "Dude" Dent Memorial Award Selection Dinner at 6 p.m. May 21 at the Clarion Inn & Suites, 300 S. Colorado Highway 13.

The event honors the top male and female athletes senior athletes for their prowess in both sports and academics. The Dude Dent is named in honor of Dent, who was a scholar athlete in Moffat County in the 1930s before being killed in action during World War II.

The evening is $15 per plate. Tickets can be purchased through MCHS athletes or at the school.
