Craig residents struck by semi

Female passenger taken to hospital Thursday night

Brian Smith

A semi-trailer truck hit a van Thursday night in west Craig that was making a left turn from South Colorado Highway 13 onto First Street, Craig Fire/Rescue Battalion Chief Dennis Jones said.

Jones said the passenger of the van, a female, was taken to The Memorial Hospital for treatment. The van’s driver, a male, was not treated, Jones said.

The driver of the semi, a male, was not injured.

Jones could not release the names of the people involved in the accident, but said the driver and the passenger of the van were both Craig residents.

The accident happened about 11:31 p.m.

The van, a 2006 Honda, was still in the highway and both residents had exited the van when firefighters arrived, Jones said.

Craig Police Department Sgt. John Forgay said there were no serious injuries. Jones, however, said he could not comment on the status of the female passenger.

Jones said Craig Fire/Rescue dispatched one fire engine and four firefighters to the scene. The vehicle did not catch fire, Jones said.

Firefighters were at the scene for about a half-hour and cleaned up anti-freeze spilling from the semi.
