Craig man arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder

— The Craig Police Department is investigating an alleged murder that took place early Sunday morning in the 400 block of Yampa Avenue.

According to a police department news release, officers responded at approximately 12:20 a.m. to an ambulance assist call for an unknown problem.

Upon arrival on scene officers located Armando Shane Arrendondo, 43, the victim of an apparent assault.

Officers administered first aid until an ambulance crew arrived, at which point Arrendondo was transported to The Memorial Hospital in Craig where he was pronounced dead.

Officers took Leroy Fief, 48, into custody at the scene and booked him into Moffat County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.

The case is being investigated by the Craig Police Department with the assistance of the Moffat County Sheriff's Office, Moffat County Coroner's Office, the Colorado State Patrol and the 14th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

14th Judicial District Attorney Brett Barkey said Sunday that more information would not be available until Monday.

The police department requests anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or a possible confrontation at about midnight Sunday near the parking lot in the 400 block of Yampa Avenue to contact police department Cmdr. Bill Leonard at 970-826-2367.
