When: 6 p.m. tonight
Where: Craig fire station, 419 Yampa Ave.
The Craig Rural Fire Protection District Board is scheduled to host a special meeting at 6 p.m. tonight at the fire station, 419 Yampa Ave., to approve a contract for the purchase of a fire training tower kit.
The meeting is open to the public.
Last month, the fire board approved purchasing the kit for $470,000 from WHP Trainingtowers contingent upon a land transfer agreement between Colorado Northwestern Community College and the fire district.
But, the CNCC Board did not move forward with the land transaction. The land would have been used for the training tower, or the first phase of a second station.
Byron Willems, fire board president, said board members tonight must offer and approve a new motion to purchase the training tower kit.
Now that the CNCC land is off the table, the training tower is slated for construction at the fire board's alternate site on Industrial Avenue near Kmart.
The WHP Trainingtowers contract is the only item on tonight's special meeting agenda and fire officials expect the motion to pass with little discussion, Willems said.
