Craig EDP names new director
Betsy Nauman Cook pegged as new business agency leader
January 20, 2012
The Craig/Moffat Economic Development Partnership has hired a new full-time executive director, the agency announced this afternoon in a news release.
Betsy Nauman Cook has been chosen as the successor to former director Darcy Owens-Trask.
She is set to begin Monday.
Cook, according to the news release, has more than 25 years experience. She has spent the last decade working in the economic development and nonprofit sectors.
"I love doing economic development," Cook said Friday. "Working for nonprofits is kind of tough because the focus is so narrow and so mission-based only.
"Economic development is interesting because you can bring together so many stakeholders to the table, the community, all of the businesses and the state, and everyone can contribute to something that is win/win for everybody."
Cook is the former downtown enhancement director for the Town of Granby, a former National Main Street manager, and has recently worked as executive director of Routt County Riders, as grant writer for Old Town Hot Springs, and as an economic development consultant.
She also has experience in small business development, business incubator establishment and operation, and local business support.
"I have done a lot of work with the Colorado Business Incubator Association and a lot of work forming and setting up business incubators," Cook said. "I'm really excited to hit the ground running on that project (the One-Stop Business Incubator). I just feel like that is such an amazing thing to be happening in Craig."
EDP reported that Cook has two bachelor's degrees from the University of Wyoming and is pursuing an MBA through Regis University.
"I've always told people that economic development isn't a silver bullet for a community, but it's silver buckshot," Cook said. "It's not just about the one thing that you're doing, it's about all of these things we'll have going on to help business growth in Moffat County."
