Musical groups ranging from elementary school choirs to Yampa Valley Brass, as well as the women's vocal group, GirlZ Berry Jam, will be performing, and activities available include horse-drawn wagon rides, puppet show, a remote control car track, face-painting and more.

The chill of winter will barely be noticeable for those who sidle up to the fire pit, where people can roast some seasonal chestnuts or the year-round favorite of the flame, marshmallows, with other refreshments plentiful.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making an appearance, a live nativity scene by members of St. Michael's Catholic Church will be on display, and downtown shops will be open late to provide plenty of Christmas shopping options.

"It's so exciting to offer a free Christmas event to the community," said Craig Daily Press Editor Noelle Leavitt Riley, who helped organize Down Home Christmas. "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Santa Claus, free hot chocolate and cookies make for a true festive celebration.”

The success of the celebration last year made it a must-have for this season, said Karen Brown, DBA member.

"It's a good community event and brings out all the good stuff that's going on," she said. "Hope a lot of people come downtown, it'll be fun!"
