The Craig City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. today in the council chambers of City Hall, 300 W. Fourth St.
The council has several items on the agenda including the first reading of the lodging tax ballot question and ordinance.
The committee that spent several months developing the lodging tax proposal introduced the measure to the council on July 13.
After its introduction, a group of representatives from the lodging industry presented a signed petition opposing the rate of the proposed tax to the council.
The petition, which was signed by 15 area hotel representatives, stated the group would support the lodging tax up to 4.9 percent.
"Any percentage over that amount we feel would be detrimental to the lodging business in Craig," the petition stated. "The majority of our customers are business travelers who will be passing any increases to their clients as a cost of doing business to those within our community."
The council is also scheduled to discuss local government input of the recent sale of Bresnan Communications to the New York-based Cablevision Systems on June 14 in a deal valued at $1.365 billion.
Other items scheduled to appear in front of the council include a lease agreement extension with Colorado Northwestern Community College at the Center of Craig and a request from MJK Sales & Feed to assist in a city water system loop adjacent to the wastewater treatment plant.
Finance director Bruce Nelson will present the financial report for June in addition to monthly reports from the water and wastewater departments.
