Officials identify man who died at ski area

Steamboat Ski Area officials think a heart attack caused a 64-year-old Arkansas man to collapse at the ski resort and later die at Yampa Valley Medical Center on Monday.

According to a news release from the ski area, Robert Gawley collapsed at about 10:38 a.m. Monday while skiing with friends on the Spur Run beginner trail. Steamboat Ski Patrol began administering advanced life support a few minutes later.

Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg was investigating the death. While it appeared to be a medical issue, Routt County Undersheriff Ray Birch said he a deputy would investigate the incident.
