Craig Briefs: State offices to close today and Monday

Many state government executive branch offices will be closed today for a mandatory furlough day and Monday (May 31) in observance of Memorial Day.
On Friday, state driver's license offices, the Department of Public Health and Environment's vital records office, state history museums, Division of Wildlife Service Centers and administrative offices for executive branch departments will be among the facilities closed, with about 15,500 executive branch employees on unpaid furlough.
Colorado State Parks, including visitor centers, will be open Friday, but all parks administrative offices will be closed.
State troopers will be pat
rolling the highways, Department of Transportation maintenance crews will be working as necessary, and the Traffic Operations Center will be running. The state unemployment benefits office, state nursing homes, hospitals and care centers also will be open.
The judicial branch, courts, attorney general, treasurer and secretary of state offices will be open as well.
Friday will be the eighth and final government closure day in fiscal year 2009-10, which ends June 30.
It is estimated the furloughs saved taxpayers an estimated $27.2 million, according to a news release from the governor's office. No furloughs are planned for FY 2010-11.
Ladies Auxiliary postpones bingo
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4265 Ladies Auxiliary reported Thursday that it will not host bingo Saturday because of conflicts with other events, such as the Moffat County High School graduation ceremony and Grand Olde West Days.
The group will next host bingo from 1 to 4 p.m. June 12 at the VFW post, 419 E. Victory Way. For more information, call Jeannie Wixson at 875-1768.
VNA launching Tai Chi class Tuesday
Aging Well, a Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association program, will start a new Tai Chi 2 class Tuesday in Hayden. The class runs for six weeks, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m., at the Haven Community Center.
