Bipartisan support announced for Craig Trapper Mine permit; letter sent

According to a news release, U.S. Senators Cory Gardner, R-Colorado, and Michael Bennet, D-Colorado, along with Governor John Hickenlooper, D-Colorado, and Congressman Scott Tipton, R-Colorado, sent a letter to U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Sally Jewell urging her to complete the court-ordered environmental assessment for Trapper Mine in Craig, prior to April 30, 2016.

Trapper Mine's permit was covered the same environmental review that the U.S. District Court in Colorado deemed deficientfor Coloywo Mine, but Trapper Mine was initially thought to be unaffected. Further review led to a negotiation with the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement that requires a new environmental assessment in order to keep Trapper Mine operational.
