Craig Briefs: Open Mic Night set for today in Craig

Those interested in performing poetry, readings, music or comedy have an opportunity today.

Open Mic Night is at 7 p.m. at Serendipity Coffee Shop, 576 Yampa Ave.

Performers can sign up at 6:30 p.m., and performances will follow the order of sign-up.

Play scheduled for tonight at church



The Northwest Colorado Homeschool Association’s speech and drama club, “Heavenly Hollywood,” is scheduled to present a theatre production, “The Fairest Flower of the South,” today.

The play is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Craig Christian Church, 960 W. Victory Way.

Tickets, which can be purchased at the door, cost $3 for individuals, $2 for seniors, and

$12 for a family of four or more.

Museum now open for summer hours

On Monday, the Wyman Museum opened under its summer hours. The museum, 94350 U.S. Highway 40, will be open six days a week, closed only Wednesdays.

Financial aid for preschool available

Preschool scholarships are available through the Moffat County School District and the Colorado Preschool Program.

The scholarships pay for preschool tuition for qualified preschool children who are 3 or 4 years old on or before Aug. 31.

Applications are available from the school district at 775 Yampa Ave., and various organizations and preschools in the community.

9News Health Fair coming to Craig

Kristi Shepherd, 9News Health Fair site coordinator, said a senior draw for those 65 and older will take place from 7 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Meadows II, 595 Ledford St.

Preregistration for the senior draw is scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Meadows II.

The health fair will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 1 at Sunset Elementary School, 800 W. Seventh St.

Donations needed for area crafters

A group of local crafters are trying to make items for area nursing homes and veterans and are accepting donations of yarn, embroidery floss, small beads and/or pearls, fabric and batting material.

Semester of ESL classes are under way in Craig

Integrated Community started a new semester of English as a Second Language classes Monday in the basement of St. Michael Catholic Church’s office, 678 School St.

For beginners, the classes are open from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. For intermediate and advanced learners, classes are from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Bingo scheduled for Saturday at Legion

American Legion Post 62 bingo is scheduled for Saturday at the Elks Lodge, 43 W. Victory Way. Doors open at 5 p.m., and games begin at 6:15 p.m.
