Craig Briefs: Governor orders flags to be lowered

Gov. Bill Ritter has ordered all U.S. and Colorado flags be lowered to half-staff at state and federal facilities throughout the state today in honor of Army Capt. Dale Goetz, 43.

Goetz died Aug. 30 in Arghandab River Valley, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, after an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle.

Goetz is survived by his wife and children, who live in Colorado Springs, and his mother, who resides in Parker. He is the first Army chaplain to die in combat since 1970. His funeral service is set for 10 a.m. today at Fort Carson.

Female hockey players wanted

There will be a meeting for women interested in playing ice hockey at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Moffat County Public Safety Center, 800 W. First St. Players of all skill level are welcome.

Commission to host special meeting

The three-member Moffat County Commission is scheduled to have a special meeting this morning at the Moffat County Courthouse, 221 W. Victory Way.

The meeting's agenda is below:

• 8 to 8:05 a.m. Call to order, roll call, Pledge of Allegiance

• 8:05 to 8:25 a.m. Discussion and possible decision on contract with Diversified Thermal Services for equipment repair at the Loudy-Simpson Park Ice Arena.

The agenda is subject to change until 24 hours before scheduled hearings. The board may alter the times of meetings throughout the day, or cancel or reschedule noticed meetings.

Commissioners, according to a schedule released by the commissioners' office, could also attend a lunch at noon today at the Holiday Inn of Craig.

The lunch is sponsored by the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
