Craig Briefs: Deaf social slated for Saturday

The Second Annual Northwestern Deaf Social is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, 1050 Yampa Ave.

Anyone who is deaf, hard of hearing, or interested in sign language is encouraged to attend.

There will be a barbecue and a deaf guest speaker from Michigan, Del Granger.

Love INC Car Care Clinic scheduled

A Love INC Car Care Clinic for single mothers, senior citizens and residents who are disabled is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Journey at First Baptist Church, 1150 W. Ninth St.

Fishing event set for Saturday

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4265 and Ladies Auxiliary, local law enforcement agencies and the Colorado Division of Wildlife are partnering to offer the 57th annual Huck Finn Cops and Kids Fishing Day on Saturday at Loudy-Simpson Park.

The event is open to youths up to 12 years old.

Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m.

There will be a fishing pole and costume judging contest from 8:30 to 8:50 a.m., and then a 10-minute presentation on fishing safety and rules, presented by Colorado Game & Fish and the Moffat County Sheriff's Office.

Prize fishing will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Gift certificates will be award to the winner of each event.

The costume contest will be for the most authentic Becky Thatcher/Huck Finn costume as well as a dress up as your favorite law enforcement officer.

All youths must be registered before they can compete in the costume contest or to enter the fishing derby.

A concession stand will be available with free pancakes, sausage and hot chocolate.

A fishing license is not required; the event date corresponds with Colorado Free Fishing Day. There is a four-fish per person limit, and participants may use any kind of pole.
