Craig Briefs: Community invited to go caroling

The community is invited to join a group who will be Christmas caroling in the evening on Dec. 10.

The group will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the north parking lot of First Congregational United Church of Christ, 630 Green St., and will travel in cars.

The group will sing at Sunset Meadows I and II, Sandrock Ridge Care & Rehab, and The Memorial Hospital.



After the caroling, there will be cookies and hot chocolate at the church.

Aging Well calendar journals now available

Aging Well calendar journals, featuring color photos of 60 active older adults in Northwest Colorado, are now available with a minimum $5 donation to the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association.

Proceeds will go toward Healthier Living Colorado, a low-cost chronic disease self-management workshop for people 18 and older and caregivers.

Calendar journals are available at the VNA office, 745 Russell St., or The Haven, 300 S. Shelton Lane, Hayden.

Lodore Hall hosting Christmas celebration

A country Christmas celebration will take place at noon Dec. 11 at Lodore Hall in Browns Park.

There will be a free dinner consisting of turkey, ham and all the trimmings.

Visitors should take a wrapped and labeled gift for children, and a dessert or salad to share.

Honor Flight seeking veterans for 4th trip

The Western Slope Honor Flight is actively seeking World War II veterans and guardians for the fourth flight to Washington, D.C., on May 4 and 5, 2011.

Applications for both veterans and guardians can be accessed at http://www.westernslopehonorflight.com, or by calling Kris Baugh at 434-2916.

Applications can be mailed to Western Slope Honor Flight, P.O. Box 3950, Grand Junction 81502.

The trip is free to veterans, but guardians are asked to pay $950 to accompany a veteran and provide care.

The mission of the Honor Flight is to transport America’s veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials dedicated in their honor.

“The goal of the Honor Flight is to make the dream a reality for the members of the ‘The Greatest Generation,’ who have waited for this once in a lifetime opportunity,” according to a news release. “The program’s top priority is to transport our nation’s most senior heroes and terminally ill veterans of all conflicts.”

Nativity display set for viewing today

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invites the public to its seventh annual nativity display today.

The display will feature more than 400 nativity scenes from all over the world.

The display is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, located at the corner of Ninth Street and Finley Lane.

Enter through the north door.

Bazaar to feature handmade items

The Ladies Mite Society’s Annual Christmas Bazaar will take place from 9 a.m. to noon today at Craig Christian Church, 960 W. Victory Way.

The event will include fresh-baked goods, hand-embroidered pillowcases, tea towels and many other handmade items.

American Legion hosting bingo

American Legion Post 62 is hosting bingo tonight.

The doors open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 6:15 p.m. at the Elks Lodge , 43 W. Victory Way.

John Jarvie Winter Festival today

The John Jarvie Winter Festival is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the historic John Jarvie Ranch in Browns Park.

The event is free and open to the public.

In anticipation of the event, the ranch has been decorated in a historical re-creation of an authentic 1880s Christmas. The Jarvie Store has also been decorated with a holiday tree and ornaments.

Throughout the ranch, pine wreaths and boughs are being hung, supplies for crafts set out, games organized, logs placed in the fire pit and musicians are tuning their instruments, all in anticipation of Jarvie visitors.
