Craig Briefs: Church hosting opera tonight

The Emerald City Outreach Opera is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. today at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1295 W. Ninth St., in Craig.
The performance is "Suor Angelica," a one-hour opera about a princess who has an illegitimate son and then enters a convent to atone
The second hour will be selections from Puccini's "La Boheme," a love story set in turn-of-the-century Paris.
Tickets cost $10 for adults. Students and children are admitted for free.
Colorado Northwestern Community College's student government is sponsoring the performance.
Firefighter's Ball set for Saturday night
The 71st annual Craig Fire/Rescue Firefighter's Ball, with a Hawaiian luau theme, is set for 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the OP Bar and Grill, 534 E. Victory Way.
The dress is casual, and a prize will be awarded for the attendee with the best costume. Music will be provided by DJ Mason Siedschlaw.
The cost is $10 per person, with food and drinks available at an additional cost.
Attendees must be 21 or older.
All proceeds from the event benefit a scholarship fund.

Students to perform Broadway numbers
The vocal students of Emily Pfeifer will present highlights from "The Scarlet Pimpernel" and other popular Broadway musicals during a recital at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Moffat County High School auditorium, 900 Finley Lane.
The recital will feature students in costumes and a choreographed show.
Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.
Fund set for former Craig resident
The family of Sarah Fleming has established a memorial fund at Yampa Valley Bank, 435 Mack Lane in Craig.
Fleming, 22, died Saturday in a vehicle crash in Madison County, Mont.
She was a 2006 Moffat County High School graduate.
The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the memorial account. Donations can be made in person, or mailed to the bank.
