Craft sale helps children, promotes drug awareness

The first craft sale held by the Craig Elks Lodge brought out “quite a few lookers,” along with donations to help drug awareness programs, organizer Dora Watson said.

“We didn’t do too bad,” she said. “The lodge made a little money, and we enjoyed visiting with everybody.”

Featuring 13 tables of crafts and baked goods, the sale also helped two Moffat County High School students trying to raise money for a trip to Australia.

“We had cupcakes for shoppers to eat,” said Amber Luker, who made about $200. “We also had small benches, school desks and birdhouses at the craft sale.”

Luker and fellow cheerleader Emily Sharpe were nominated to represent Craig in the Down Under Sports Bowl, where they will meet other girls from around the world and cheer at games in Australia, if they can raise the needed money.

Watson also was impressed by the number of people who made donations to the drug-awareness program run by the Elks.

“It was really cold Sunday morning,” Watson said. “We got a little late start, but it was a good effort for our first time holding a craft sale.”

Watson says plans are in the works for another sale the weekend of April 1.
