Tournament play will begin at noon and will include such amenities as monogrammed balls and commemorative golf shirts for the occasion.

Pike's father, Dave, said there already are more than 80 golfers registered for the event, which works through Community Foundation of Northern ColoradoCommunity Foundation of Northern Colorado to offer educational funding to local college-bound students. Last year, the tourney was able to provide $3,000 in scholarship money in Cory's memory, Dave said.

"It's still tough, and it's an emotional time of year for us, but it's a good way to celebrate his life," he said. "It's always sad to think about that, but on the flip side, it's nice to get everybody together, and I can't think of a better way to remember him."
