The board of directors for The Memorial Hospital approved a new personnel plan for the hospital recommended by the hospital's management company, Quorum Health Resources.

After meeting in executive session for more than an hour, the board voted 5-2 to accept Quorum's personnel recommendations. The plan was not released and details were not discussed. Board Chairman Don Myers said he had no comment on the personnel plan and that he would not release it.

Colorado open meetings law allows for personnel matters and contractual negotiations to be discussed in executive or closed session; however, no action may be taken behind closed doors.

Before the board entered into executive session, several residents spoke about Quorum and the hospital's administration, specifically hospital CEO George Rohrich and administrator Jennifer Riley.

Al Cashion expressed concern about the hospital's performance and suggested that the board consider a change in leadership. Some in the audience agreed with Cashion. Others expressed a different perspective.

"I'm here to support Jennifer, George and the hospital," hospital employee Susan Chenoweth said. "I see how hard these people work for the benefit of the community and I see the things they do right.”

Linda Bertram, an employee in the emergency department at the hospital, said she agreed with one woman who said she feared this was becoming a small town witch hunt. And Keith Prescott, an anesthesiologist at the hospital said he felt the concern surrounding the hospital was malicious and unnecessary, adding he felt the majority of the community felt good about the care they receive. Prescott was critical of the Craig Daily Press' coverage of the hospital.

"I've seen good care happen in every location I've been," Prescott said "This is the only place I've ever been and seen such a negative twist, specifically from the (Craig Daily Press) on how we take care of people."
