CNCC Fundraiser Dinner tries different approach, sees benefits

This year's Colorado Northwestern Community College foundation fundraiser took on a snazzier look, and raised almost $6,000 by doing so.
Its second year, the event was modeled after the foundation fundraiser dinner at the Rangeley campus, rather than the picnic style of last year.
It was held to raise funds and awareness of the need for residential facilities at Craig.
Featuring a dinner including silent and live auctions, the semi-formal event took place Saturday evening at the Craig Campus Commons.
Lois Wymore, a member of the foundation and organizer of the event, said raising $6,000 exceeded expectations.
"That's amazing here. Fundraisers, I mean, they usually make a little bit of money, but for a first time dinner it did awesome," Wymore said.
Wymore said there were about 107 guests, with tickets at $30 a piece, but almost $4,000 of the total funds raised were by auction items.
Local businesses and community members donated all auction items.
Second year student Zoey Sower, president of the student government and national honor society, helped out at the event and said she thought the fundraiser was important in spreading awareness about the need for residential facilities on campus.
"I think it would bring way more students," Sower said. The 19-year-old said she hoped the creation of dorms would bring more students her age.
The event began at 6:00 p.m. with bidding on silent auction items, cocktails and live entertainment from Anthony Tremaine, followed by a live auction at 7 p.m.
Master of ceremonies Todd Hagenbuch and auctioneer Kenny Kawcak livened up the evening and presented items such as a reclining leather chair, that went for $900.
Hagenbuch said, "It would put a feather in the cap of the CNCC campuses to have residential facilities on both," as he drummed up bids at the auction.
The equestrian club of the Rangeley campus helped out its sister campus by auctioning themselves off for three hours of work per person.
Following the auction, was a dinner catered by the Tin Cup Grill.
"The idea behind the fundraiser is to be proactive for the whole community," Wymore said. "And having residential facilities would make a smooth transition for students who want to come here from out of town."
