CMS volleyball teams split with Soroco
September 23, 2010
Tuesday was a day of both victory and defeat for the Craig Middle School volleyball teams.
Facing off against Soroco Middle School, the seventh-grade team won its match, 2-0, while the eighth-graders had the opposite result, dropping both games.
The eighth-grade team lost, 25-18 and 25-15.
Eighth-grade coach Sara Linsacum said her team's loss mostly had to do with service — hard, precise serves from Soroco, and disappointing serves from her players.
"A lot of them were hitting it out of bounds," Linsacum said. "We need to work on that. What kills us are little schools like Soroco who start their programs early and always have the same girls."

Linsacum said the game was, nonetheless, a good experience for her team, whose record stands at 2-4 on the season.
"They all did a good job on fundamentals," she said. "In my opinion, my girls are the best in the conference, and there's no reason for us not to win districts. But, it's hard to get the playing time everyone wants."
For the seventh-graders, the Tuesday win was the latest in a strong season. Their record is now 5-1 after winning 25-23 and 25-10.
"I'm proud of all my girls," seventh-grade coach Michelle Henderson said. "Emily White was making a lot of great serves, and everyone was really on their feet. We got some good practice bumping, setting and spiking."
Henderson said such game skills are challenging for her players, most of whom are playing competitive volleyball for the first time.
"They're still learning the basics," she said.
The CMS volleyball teams play next at 9 a.m. Saturday at CMS against Rangely.
