Club hockey team to take momentum to Crested Butte

Going into a weekend series against Crested Butte, the Moffat County club hockey team has one big advantage.

Momentum, and lots of it.

The Bulldogs are coming off a weekend sweep against Durango on the Steamer's home ice, and coach Walker Criswell said his team looked especially dominating against their league opponents.

"They played really well in Durango, so I'd really just like to improve on what we have going," he said.

Fellow coach "Jerry Strahan has a good game plan, and I'd like to run our strategies just a little better. But, other than that, they've been playing well."

In the first game against Durango, goalie Curt Ellgen shut out the Steamers as Moffat County won, 2-0.

Spencer Wayman took over in the net for the second game and played well, allowing just one goal as Moffat County won, 2-1.

"Our defense was solid," Criswell said. "That includes goaltending. The goaltending was very, very good. (Durango) took a lot of shots."

Criswell said captain CJ Walt was again solid, and the other Moffat County defenders prevented Durango from getting its offense moving.

"The defense played very well — they stand out," Criswell said. "We're hoping we can do the same this weekend."

The Bulldogs' first game is scheduled for 7:45 a.m. Sunday, followed by another game at 11:15 a.m.

Both games are at the Moffat County Ice Arena, 600 S. Ranney St.
