For all those who have difficulty finding the perfect gift for the special women in their lives, the Centennial Mall may have just the ticket.

The mall will host the Spring Mother’s Day Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The event will provide booth space for more than 70 vendors of crafts of all kinds, including jewelry, purses, candles, cheeses, baked goods and more.

Mall manager Vicki Hall said the materials available are mostly aimed toward people shopping for Mother’s Day gifts for mothers, wives and grandmothers, but she has worked at packing the floor with vendors whose wares will attract all types of people.

“We’ve got all kinds of stuff,” she said. “There’ll be a spray paint artist who’s selling his stuff, and Amy Peck is working with the Sunset (Elementary) kids and their plants, and people from a greenhouse in Steamboat will be bringing their plants over, too. The Humane Society will also be down here.”

Hall said the list of vendors includes locals, as well as many out-of-town sellers from Meeker, Grand Junction, Paonia, Vernal, Utah, and more. She said the bazaar has “grown and grown” in numbers since beginning 15 years ago.

“It used to be we’d get maybe 50 vendors with a good show, and now everybody’s calling and wants to be in it,” she said. “That, I think, is a sign of the times. What I’ve seen is that a lot of people are out of jobs and doing other things to supplement income, something more creative.”

This year also includes a new addition to the bazaar: a mother-daughter fashion show hosted by women’s clothing store Maurices.

Starting at 2 p.m. during the event, 10 sets of mother-daughter groups will be displaying the styles available in the boutique. The show will take place on a runway that will be specially constructed in the mall’s east wing.

Maurices manager Rose Lindquist said the lineup of volunteer models will show the wide variety the store offers.

She will also be participating in the show with her mother.

“We’ve got 21 women total, all different shapes and sizes,” she said. “We’ve got all ages. I think our youngest girl is 9 or 10, and it goes up through 50 or 60 (years old).”

Lindquist said the store has sponsored fashion shows previously, but this is the first time they’ve staged one during the bazaar.

Everyone in the audience of the fashion show will automatically receive a coupon for a 20-percent discount at Maurices.
