CDP Editorial: History stays alive

Our View

Craig and Moffat County is fortunate to have two museums in the community to preserve and showcase our history, host events and enrich cultural opportunities for residents. To the Museum of Northwest Colorado and Wyman Museum, we offer our thanks, praise and encouragement to keep the operations running at such a high level.

Separated by mere miles in our community are two high-profile yet unheralded institutions — the Museum of Northwest Colorado, 590 Yampa Ave., and Wyman Museum, 94350 E. U.S. Highway 40.

Both museums are home to extensive collections documenting Craig and Moffat County’s history, keeping alive our community’s heritage for current and future generations to observe, study and appreciate.

Our community should be thankful for these institutions.

Other towns and cities with much bigger populations don’t have such amenities.

While our community doesn’t have all the offerings of those more populated areas, we should appreciate and embrace the museums and their dedicated staffs for the services and opportunities they provide.

Both museums host an assortment of events each year, in addition to the regular business hours they keep for visitors.

The most recent example was Wyman Museum’s event Saturday, the Pumpkin Patch, which drew well and provided a fun, family-friendly outlet.

The museum deserves to be commended for the event and others, just as the Museum of Northwest deserves kudos for its past and future events.

We also encourage those residents who have not taken the time to tour the museums to do so.

The depth, quality and information in the displays and features about the community’s history, as well as that of the surrounding area, is impressive, educational and informative.

It’s offerings such as the museums that separate communities from being an average place to live to a place with something to offer new and existing residents.

The museums, while sometimes underappreciated, are truly two notable attributes and we hope they continue to be operated at such a high level.
