— Traffic on U.S. Highway 40 west of Steamboat Springs was restricted to one lane shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday after a Subaru wagon driven by Isaiah Farnsworth of Craig struck and killed two cows.

The accident took place about a mile west of the Steamboat II entrance on U.S. 40. Farnsworth was transported to Yampa Valley Medical Center, but a Colorado State Patrol trooper on the scene said Farnsworth was conscious and talking to emergency responders before he was transported.

A second vehicle driven by Kerry Crimmins also was involved in the accident. Crimmins, a longtime Steamboat Pilot & Today employee, was driving westbound behind Farnsworth and said she was unable to avoid hitting one of the dead cows that previously was struck by Farnsworth’s car. Crimmins was not injured.
