Restaurants, local retail stores and recreational providers are giving discounts to visitors wearing official FFA jackets. The discounts range from free bowling shoes to free breadsticks. Yampa Valley Golf Course is allowing FFA conventioneers to pay resident green fee rates, and Little Bear River Valley Miniature Golf and Craig Swimming and Wave Pool are offering reduced rates.
Tours of Trapper Mine’s 14,000,000 lb. dragline and 100-ton haul trucks are filling up. Colorado Northwestern Community College’s Mary Morris is scheduling the free tours, complete with buses to take visitors to the site, courtesy of Trapper Mine.
Tuesday night, the historic downtown merchants and Museum of Northwest Colorado will present music including a performance by Blue Harvest, and llama exhibits in the downtown park.
Jan Gerber, of the museum, said that in addition to the Western Americana and Cowboy and Gunfighter Collection on exhibit, a special private quilt collection, “Celebrating the Cowboy” will be featured during June. On Wednesday, antique farm machinery, miniature tractors, and antique stationary engines, operating water pumps and a rare Chase engine, manufactured by a company that operated from 1913-1916 will be on display at Loudy-Simpson Park, provided by the Yampa Valley Antique Power Association.
Businesses that will give discounts to FFA participants are displaying gold FFA flyers in their windows throughout the week. On Tuesday and Wednesday, welcoming signs and balloons will be posted on the east and south sides of town.
