A Craig insurance agency changed hands on Tuesday.

After 42 years in the business, Farmers Insurance Agent E.J. Bunk is retiring. Farmers Agent Debbie Montgomery acquired his business on Tuesday.

“I’m staying in Craig. There are so many good things about Craig. This is a neat town. I have the most wonderful memories,” Bunk said.

The decision wasn’t easy after serving generations of people, but Bunk feels he’s leaving the agency in great hands allowing him to relax into the next chapter of his life.

“I’m going to kick back for a little bit, do some fishing and some shooting and give myself some ‘me’ time.”E.J. BunkFarmers Agent

“I’m going to kick back for a little bit, do some fishing and some shooting and give myself some ‘me’ time,” Bunk said.

Two people were employed by Bunk both were offered the choice to stay. One employee chose to resign. The second employee, Customer Service Representative Ashely Simpson, has moved into a fulltime position with the agency.

“I’m enjoying the learning opportunity,” Simpson said. She’s also enjoyed getting to know her new boss and said that customers have been “pretty positive” about the change.

Montgomery has lived in Moffat County since 1974. She started as an independent insurance agent in 2000 then become a Farmers Insurance Agent in 2014.

“Farmers is a known national brand. We have great products,” Montgomery said.

Her business was located at 509 Yampa Ave. until she decided to buy Bunk’s building along with his book of business.

“He’s been here since 1989, and it’s a known location,” she said.

A letter sent on June 17 notified customers of both agents of the transition that was finalized on Aug. 1.

“It’s a great opportunity, and I want E.J.’s clients to rest assured that they will get the great customer service that I give and will continue to give to all my clients,” Montgomery said.
